The article examines the approaches used by Spanish Jesuit missionary Francis Xavier to spread the Roman Catholic faith in Japan. It focuses on the letters he sent from Kagoshima, Japan disclosing how the Japanese encountered Roman Catholic Christianity through his ministry and how he approached them. It outlines the approaches he used including interaction with selected Japanese, use of the Japanese language and discipleship. It evaluates the significant points in Xavier's ministry in Japan.
