Abstract:

Understanding and interpreting the Bible in a meaningful and relevant manner is a commonly experienced problem. Doing it in India with due respect for Indian perceptions and values intensifies the problem. In order to face this problem the insights of George M. Soares- Prabhu, S.J. and the method advocated by him are proposed as remedial measures and significant contributions. His background, options and priorities form the first part of this article. Then, in the second, his profound, multidimensional concern is highlighted and his major exegetical, theological contributions are briefly explained. Finally, a few pertinent concluding remarks are made.
