- Abstract:
Saint Eugene’s sister named Eugenie married Marquis Armand de Boisgelin in 1808. He remained very close to the couple and their family over the years, always encouraging them to be faithful to their Christian duties. They had five children, three daughters and two sons. Two girls, Caroline and Nathalie, died of tuberculosis in their teens. The third one, Césarie, married Marquis Charles de Damas at Albano, near Rome, in 1845; they had six children. One nephew, Louis, joined the Jesuits, but also died of tuberculosis in 1842 at the age of 27. Finally, Bishop de Mazenod blessed the wedding of the last of the de Boisgelin siblings, Eugene, at Marseilles in 1848; this family had seven children. As an uncle, Saint Eugene followed their education closely; he was always happy to spend some time with them and, as he did for the Oblates, to show them much concern and affection.
