Abstract:

Este trabajo indaga sobre la figura de los "hechiceros" guaycurúes del Gran Chaco meridional mencionados en las fuentes jesuitas del siglo XVIII . El doble objetivo es acercarnos al sistema chamánico de estos grupos chaqueños y discutir los conceptos de chamanismo y brujería en estas sociedades. Para ello se analizan las obras de Martín Dobrizhoffer, Florián Paucke, José Sánchez Labrador y José Jolís.

The article inquires into the figure of the Guaycurú sorcerers of the southern Gran Chaco mentioned in 18th century Jesuit sources, in order to examine the shamanic system of these groups and discuss the concept of shamanism and witchcraft in these societies. To that effect, the paper analyzes the works of Martín Dobrizhoffer, Florián Paucke, José Sánchez Labrador and José Jolís.
