Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to shed light on Ludovico Buglio's (1606-1682) translation of the "Summa theologica" into Chinese. The introduction presents several features of the Jesuit mission in China that are relevant to the problem of translation, while the second part is devoted to a detailed inquiry into the particular characteristics of Buglio's approach.
