Abstract:

A Contrarreforma católica, decorrente do confronto com a Reforma protestante, elabora, no âmbito da Ordem jesuítica, a pedagogia da Ratio Studiorum que, inspirada no espírito do Trivium escolástico, vai remontar ao humanismo dos clássicos greco-latinos, para desvitalizá-los e instrumentalizá-los a serviço de uma Retórica “cristianizada”, com o propósito de um redressement da práxis católica no contexto da Cristandade ameaçada.

The Cagholic Counter-Reformation, arising from the confrontation with the Protestant Reformation, elaborates within the Jesuit Order the pedagogy of the Ratio Studiorum, which, inspired by the spirit of the scholastic Trivium, goes back to the humanism of the Greco-Latin classics, to devitalize and instrumentalize them in the service of a "Christianized" Rhetoric, for the purpose of a redressment of Catholic praxis in the context of threatened Christianity.
