O Colégio da Bahia, foi o mais importante núcleo de educação do período colonial, funcionando com Cursos de Primeiras Letras, Humanidades, Filosofia e Teologia. Como destacou Serafim Leite, muitos jovens passaram por aquele colégio seguindo posteriormente carreiras civil, militar e religiosa. O reconhecimento pelas autoridades locais e pelo poder monárquico foi comum entre os séculos XVI a XVIII, sendo considerado o Colégio Máximo da Província. Este artigo visa a destacar o processo de formação do Colégio da Bahia no decorrer do século XVI até o momento da invasão holandesa, dando ênfase ao processo de edificação do colégio e as necessidades materiais para funcionamento da instituição.
The School of Bahia was the most important educational center in the colonial period, as it functioned by offering Primary Education Courses, Humanities, Filosophy and Theology. As Sarafim Leite pointed out, many young people studied in that school later pursuing civil, military and religious careers. The recognition by the local authorities as well as the monarchic power was common between the centuries XVI to XVIII, when it was considered the best school in the province. This article aims to point out the process of formation of the School of Bahia from the XVI century until the Dutch invasion, emphasizing its building process and the material needs indispensable for its operation.
