Abstract:

Biographic dictionary of the local and European architects and engineers that worked in the Rio de la Plata area during the colonial period. This reference work represents 4 decades of research work that De Paula started in 1959 integrating information from archives and libraries in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil and Spain. The book rescues the lives and work of authors of the spontaneous and sometimes empirical Novohispanic architecture of River Plate, considered one of the main factors of the urbanization and evangelization processes of the peripheral region. Includes information on the Jesuits architects of Chiquitos (Bolivia) and military and civil engineers in Uruguay and Brazil.
