- Abstract:
The Cursus conimbricensis is one of the most relevant works edited by the teachers of the Jesuit College of Arts of Coimbra during the 16th century. The importance of these long and heavy eight commentaries on Aristotle has been neglected by the history ofeducation until some Portuguese and American scholars showed ascientific interest on the subject. This paper aims at presenting theCursus as an educational product, with which the Coimbrans responded to specific didactic purposes and as a recognition of the state-of-the-art on many key philosophical questions of the early modern era. In doing so, the Coimbrans’ work stands for us as aunusual example of a culture built by and for education.
